Grand Opening

Grand Opening

Rural Electric article – date unknown

Teri and Dan Wolff opened “Ricky and Lucy’s Country Greenhouse” this spring. This unique greenhouse is located northeast of Sidney. The greenhouse is actually a renovated barn that was built in the late 1800’s.  Everything is organically grown (no chemicals), hand planted and cared for individually. Teri has a potting shed where the greenhouse seedlings are transplanted to individual pots before moving into the greenhouse. During their spring opening, Teri and Dan offered many varieties of annual flowers, vegetables, perennials and herbs. A variety of small houseplants occupies a portion of the greenhouse, and is just waiting for that special someone to take them home. An array of exotic tropical plants is also available. A special “tropical room” is currently under construction in another area of the barn.

Teri spends a lot of time doing research on her greenhouse plants and herbs. When purchasing plants from the greenhouse you will receive a personalized care sheet. Several unique pots are also available for sale as well as soil and organic fertilizer.

Teri offers a variety of herbs, which are hand grown, harvested, and prepared. The current year’s harvest is always guaranteed for freshness. Availability depends on Mother Nature. (You know – those late frosts and nasty wind/hail storms that seem to visit our area.) Brochures are available on culinary and medicinal herbs and their uses. Herbs can be purchased bottled, capsulated, tinctured, or in bulk. Tincture is the process in which the healing quality of the herb is preserved, lengthening the shelf life to twenty years.

You may call for special herb blends. Teri has a spicy pepper blend that is very popular. She also provides specialty tea blends and bath bag blends upon request. Teri hopes to include herbal soaps, balms and candles in her future line of products.

The greenhouse will remain open year round. Fall hours are 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. (every day). Teri will offer fresh greenhouse tomatoes, peppers, and eggplant. She will also be adding lemon and orange trees as well as an avocado tree so you can purchase these items fresh as well. Fall plantings such as bulbs, perennials, shrubs, and herbs are also available, and during the Holiday season, she will have poinsettias and Christmas cactus. Next spring Teri will be adding many tree varieties to her vast selection of annuals, perennials, and herbs.

Outside, Teri and Dan have approximately fifteen different garden beds to house the many vegetables, herbs, flowers, and trees that surround the greenhouse. Did you know that some plants do not get along when (planted) near each other!?! So it’s best to keep them apart! Teri can share some tips on companion planting your garden.

Dan and Teri Wolff stay very busy keeping everything in order and doing all of their remodeling on the greenhouse. The barn is currently undergoing extensive remodeling for the additional greenhouse rooms. Dan has his own construction business called “Wood’n It Work.” You can call him for estimates on your construction or remodeling projects at 249-3792.
